As the winter months approach, we are thrilled to announce our Winter Programme of Presentations at St Dunstans Church Hall in Keynsham. Each event starts at 7.30pm and is open to members and non-members (there is a small charge for non-members). This series of engaging talks will cover a range of captivating topics, each presented by knowledgeable speakers who are passionate about their subjects. Whether you are a history buff, a cultural enthusiast, or simply looking for an enjoyable evening out, our presentations promise to enlighten and entertain, ensuring you leave with new insights.
The Winter Programme runs from October 2025 through April 2026, showcasing a diverse lineup of speakers and topics that reflect the rich heritage of our local community and beyond. Below, we provide an overview of each presentation, along with details of date and start times.
Monuments of Bath Abbey by Jeremy Key-Pugh
Date: Monday, 20th October 2025

Kicking off our Winter Programme, Jeremy Key-Pugh will take us on a journey through the stunning monuments of Bath Abbey.
German Royal Residences & the British Royal Family by Susan Symes
Date: Monday, 17th November 2025
Time: 7.30pm
In November, Susan Symes will enlighten us about the German Royal Residences and the British Royal Family. This is a change to the previously advertised event about the personal life of Queen Victoria.
Past Christmas Festivals by Colin Chapman
Date: Monday, 8th December 2025
Time: 7.30pm
As we approach the festive season, Colin Chapman will take us back in time to explore the evolution of Christmas festivals. Hopefully this event will also be accompanied by mince pies and refreshments.
History of Clarks Shoes and New Museum by Tim Crumplin

Time: 7.30pm
January's presentation will feature Tim Crumplin discussing the rich history of Clarks Shoes and the exciting new museum dedicated to this iconic brand. Clarks has been a staple of British footwear since its establishment in 1825, and Tim will share fascinating insights into its evolution.
Mabel Tothill - Feminist, Socialist, Pacifist by June Hannam

In February, June Hannam will present the life of Mabel Tothill, a remarkable activist known for her contributions as a feminist, socialist, and pacifist. This presentation will explore how Mabel fought for women's rights throughout the early 20th century.
Birnbeck Pier - History and Current Plans by Peter Lander

March's presentation will be led by Peter Lander, who will discuss the fascinating history of Birnbeck Pier and the current preservation plans in place. This iconic structure, which has been a beloved landmark since its opening in 1867, is facing various challenges due to weathering and neglect.
Funerals and Bereavement Since the 13th Century by Helen Frisby

Wrapping up our Winter Programme, Helen Frisby will present a thought-provoking discussion on funerals and bereavement from the 13th century.
